We know more about David’s thoughts, words, fears, strengths and weaknesses than almost anyone else who has ever lived. And, think about this: what we know about David we have actually learned from God Himself, from God’s perspective. David was God’s man – David’s heart was after God, and for God. He was a servant of the Lord for life. David is the most described man in the Bible for a reason. He was a shepherd, warrior, musician, king, prophet and a writer of psalms. From long hours spent in the wilderness watching sheep and long nights guarding them under the stars as a young shepherd, David was inspired (after the Spirit came upon him in I Samuel 16:13), to write the Spirit- prompted lessons of his life we now have in the book of Psalms. Psalms 20 through 29, written by David, contain powerful words that reflect his profound faith and how that faith played out in his life when he trusted God. God has made David our prime Old Testament example of how we can live – like David did -- as a true servant of God.
